City Colleges of Chicago celebrates Daley College
Professor Vali Siadat, Ph.D.
Mr Siadat is a Alborz High School grad. In 1962 he
came to US to attend college and graduated from UC, Berkeley in
1967 with a BS in electrical engineering. While working in the
silicon valley in high tech firms, he earned an MS degree in
electrical engineering from San Jose State University in
1971. He came to Illinois in 1972 and attended the UIC where he
was awarded an MS in applied mathematics (1986), a PhD in pure
mathematics in 1990, and a Doctor of Arts degree in mathematics
education in 1997. He is a distinguished professor
and Mathematics department Chair at Richard J. Daley College,
Chicago and also an adjunct mathematics professor at Loyola
University, Chicago. Congratulations to Dr. Siadat.
November 17, 2005 - Chicago, IL - The Carnegie Foundation for
the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and
Support of Education (CASE) have named M. Vali Siadat, Ph.D., of
Richard J. Daley College, the 2005 Illinois Professor of the
Year. Professor Siadat was selected from among nearly 400 top
professors in the United States.
"The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) applauds Dr. Vali Siadat
for being named 'Illinois Professor of the Year' by CASE and the
Carnegie Foundation," said CCC Chancellor Wayne D. Watson. "This
national honor, decided by a national panel is one of the most
prestigious annual teaching awards in higher education."
The 2005 Professor of the Year program includes winners in 40
states, Guam, and the District of Columbia. CASE assembled two
preliminary panels of judges to select finalists. The Carnegie
Foundation then convened the third and final panel, which
selected four national winners and state winners. Professor
Siadat was selected from faculty members nominated by colleges
and universities throughout the country.
"Dr. Siadat is an educational innovator," said Sylvia Ramos,
president of Richard J. Daley College. "His work as director of
the Proyecto Access/Chicago PREP program inspires middle school
and high school students to develop an enthusiastic interest in
science and engineering. As Daley College professor of
mathematics and department chair, Dr. Siadat motivates and
nurtures students of all ages. He has had excellent success in
arranging research internships for Daley College students at
Argonne National Laboratory. We are very proud of his many
accomplishments and his most recent designation as 2005 Illinois
